The trade of Chinese porcelain to Europe started in the late 16th century, and in the 18th century it had become commonplace for wealthy families to dine on Chinese porcelain. The Swedish East India Company was founded in 1731, and quickly became the largest trading company in Sweden during the 18th century. Since then, Swedish collectors have been avid in their pursuit of Asian art, and primarily Chinese porcelain. It’s our great pleasure to present Asian Sale at Crafoord Stockholm, with pieces from several private Swedish collections. The sale includes Japanese and Korean works of art, pieces in bronze, stone, lacquer, silver, jade and of course Chinese ceramics dating from the Song Dynasty to the mid 20th century.
