One might think that Bengt Lindström would hardly need an introduction in the world of auctions. His expressive, vividly colored figurative painting (a kind of Cobra movement with a Sundsvall accent) is today an unquestionable part of Swedish art history.
But when Hälsinglands Auktionsverk now presents 15 of his works, we are faced with something less commonly seen at auction – Lindström’s early works. These pieces were created during a period when he was absorbing impressions and lessons from Konstfack, Grünewald’s painting school, and the artistic currents of Paris.
The result is a fresh medley of modernism expressed in multiple ways: a black-and-white gouache that leans toward Picasso, other works strongly abstracted, and in between washes that are much more naturalistic.
Welcome to discover the early Bengt Lindström!
