When Malmö Konsthall presented a retrospective exhibition of Barbro Bäckström’s artistic work in 1991, the exhibition text captured her expression in the phrase “like drawings in space.”
And indeed, Bäckström worked constantly with the relationship between volume, mass, and emptiness. This is made abundantly clear now as Crafoord Auktioner Lund presents a themed selection of some twenty works by her. The sculptures in mesh and aluminum are, of course, included, as are the graphite works. It is Bäckström through and through — exactly as one would hope.
