Eclectic & Decorative is a delightful treat for anyone who loves art, antiques, and design. The specialists at the world’s oldest auction house have joined forces to select nearly 700 lots. The unifying thread is quality, presented in a cross-genre assortment that spans centuries of aesthetic expression.
From the holidaymakers of the 1930s we find an Utö table from Nordiska Kompaniet’s sports cabin collection. Through Leif-Erik Nygårds’ lens, Marilyn Monroe is immortalized on that summer day in 1962 at the Bel Air Hotel. And from the circle of Johan Henrik Scheffel comes a portrait depicting Charles de Geer.
The catalogue also features furniture by Josef Frank and Mats Theselius, prints by Olle Baertling, Marc Chagall and Rupert Jasen Smith, art glass by Eva Englund, Viennese bronzes, photography by Gunnar Smoliansky, stoneware by Hans Hedberg, an extensive Nobel dinner service, a silver sugar casket by Petter Lindström, and much, much more.
Amid all this richness, several small gems appear that should not be overlooked. Three examples include Kurt Lindon’s depiction of the Latin Quarter, an Empire-style hanging lamp by Reinhold Fredric Lindroth, and a tiny miniature urn in cobalt blue glass and gold.
