You are warmly welcomed to the Winter Auction in Helsinki and a splendid catalogue featuring over 330 lots. The selected items range from classical antiques to modern design, offering plenty to see.
The art department presents works of high quality. Some examples include Pekka Halonen’s Stockflottare, Magnus von Wright’s Djurgårdsmotiv, Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s Leende, Maria Wiik’s Sommaridyll, and five varied works by Reidar Särestöniemi, together showcasing the artist’s broad palette. Also featured are Oscar Kleineh’s landscapes and Ilya Efimovich Repin’s portrait study for Black Sea Freemen. A noteworthy blue painting is Santeri Salokivi’s Kvällsstämning i hamnen.
Alongside the paintings is a carved lynx (46 cm tall!) by Jussi Mäntynen. Further highlights include a French Empire dressing table contrasted with Tapio Wirkkala’s modern masterpiece of a coffee table inlaid with flatfish. From the 20th century, there is also ceramics by Birger Kaipiainen, lighting art by Paavo Tynell, and, of course, numerous examples of Finnish art glass. A hair-rug designed by Greta Skogster-Lehtinen reflects the 1930s design world, thoughtfully displayed in front of showcases with Flora Danica porcelain, antique Russian silver, and a selection of exceptionally exclusive jewellery.
