One of Karlshamn's oldest confectioneries, Sjölands, has had several different owners since the year 2000. Before that, Sjölands was synonymous with the owner couple Agne and Mildred Johnsson for a full 25 years. It is now the estate of these owners that is coming up for sale under the theme Sjölands Confectionery.
Agne's background in the bakery industry began at the age of 15 when he was a delivery boy at Stenholm's bakery on Lotsgatan. Mildred was a trained shop assistant. Agne, who after training in Lausanne, Switzerland, could title himself as a master confectioner, took over Sjölands confectionery with Mildred in 1975. Over the years, Agne has been the one to mentor other Karlshamn bakers during their apprenticeship, as he was entirely focused on his profession. Mildred was the one in the couple who managed everything related to the finances, the design, and the decorations of the confectionery. In the year 2000, the couple retired, but Agne, in true working spirit, could not entirely stay away from his career and was occasionally seen in Roland's bakery cart at the market.
Now, you can find parts of the home that the couple built together during their industrious lives, and above all, some of you will find nostalgic treasures such as the coffee service with the text "Sjölands" and the Santas that adorned the shop window every year during Karlshamn's Christmas display.
