Crafoord Stockholm presents around 30 works by the pop artist Petter Thoen. Thoen (1942) originally hails from Norway but moved to Sweden and then on to the USA in the 1970s. In the USA, he worked as an art director, ran his own advertising agency, and won many well-known awards.
Early in his career, Thoen drew cartoons and covers for comic books, including Superman and Batman. In his artistic work, he borrows imagery from the world of comics and transforms it into his own artistic expression. He masters both painting and graphic art and has an enormous precision when it comes to details and color choices.
Petter Thoen has created several large murals that can be seen in New York, Los Angeles, and Oslo, as well as in numerous international art collections. His aim is to "create moments that make the viewer smile" and draws inspiration from the pioneers of pop art, Warhol and Lichtenstein.
