Garpenhus Auctions once again turn their gaze over the Baltic Sea as they now present 55 works under the title 'Estonian Art.' Silvia Leitu's portrait 'Endel Köks' crowns this collection of paintings and graphics primarily from the latter half of the 20th century. According to provenance, it was created in 1947 in a German refugee camp for Estonians after the Soviet Union's takeover of Estonia. Leit is depicted in a yellow jacket against a turquoise-green background, with her red lips and hair serving as contrasting color accents. Among the highlights of the theme are also Boris Ninemaes' quietly tuned depictions of life along the coast, where fishermen mend their nets. From these, an arc stretches to the other end of the curated selection, where we find Jüri Arrak's expressive figures. Alongside these, works by artists such as Karin Luts-Arumaa, Ville Tops, and Silvia Virve Leitu-Tannberg are also offered here. Welcome!
