This category includes ceiling lights from Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernism, but also design icons from the post-war period. Classic models such as Poul Henningsen's PH lamps, Verner Panton's Flowerpot and Gino Sarfatti's Italian lighting are juxtaposed with opal glass plafonds, forged chandeliers and chrome-plated stilnovo luminaires. Many of the lamps are signed or have been made by well-known producers; others carry history through the choice of materials, age and use. Today, lamps are in demand for everything from living rooms to kitchens and bedrooms – preferably with both character and function.
Ceiling lights are often the visual focus of a room - they are visible, shape the light pattern and set the tone of the interior. From the gas lamps of the 19th century to the electrified ceilings of the 20th century and today's smart lighting, the role of the ceiling light has been both practical and stylistic. Especially in living rooms, halls and over dining tables, the ceiling light is a central part of the room's identity.
In previous auctions, Art Nouveau forged ceiling lamps, Art Deco opal glass plafonds and modernist ceiling lamps signed by well-known manufacturers have found new owners.
