Bruno Knutman began his artistic journey with studies at Essems Målarskola in Malmö, Valands Målarskola in Göteborg, and Polytechnic Art School in London. Classified as one of the early pop artists in the 1960s, it's inaccurate to pigeonhole his style into a specific category, as he consciously distanced himself from prevailing art movements.
His artistic contributions are valued by many, especially younger artists inspired by both his color palette and choice of scenes. Bruno Knutman's dream worlds can be discerned in the paintings of artists like Jockum Nordström and Karin Mamma Andersson, both of whom were close to their senior colleague. His visual world is filled with both humor and feverish horror, conveying a sense that his works result from a therapeutic introspection. The characters populating his paintings are recurring and enigmatic, with the humanoid cat appearing in multiple works, acting as a guide for the viewer.
Even his drawings exude a contrast between childlike naivety and the sense of a threatening reality. They depict moments just before a complete catastrophe or a clearing.
Bruno Knutman participated in exhibitions at Moderna Museet, Bohusläns Museum, Lunds Konsthall, and Sundsvalls Museum. He frequently held solo exhibitions at Galleri Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm. In 1998, his artwork was part of the exhibition "Hjärtat sitter till vänster" at Göteborgs Konstmuseum, the first major retrospective exhibition of Swedish art from the 1960s and 1970s. This exhibition reportedly inspired Lukas Moodysson to create the film "Together" ("Tillsammans").
Skånes Auktionsverk has the honor of auctioning a collection of oil paintings and drawings, several of which were displayed at the exhibition "Här står vargen för dörren" at Lunds Konsthall in 2010. This presents a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to acquire one of Bruno Knutman's distinctive works!
