Description

A large and impressive mounted Pike, set in a naturalistic setting and with a painted backboard. In a bow fronted glazed and wooden cabinet, with gilt lettering to the front, 'Pike, 32 1/2lbs, Caught in River Avon, Christchurch, by H R Wheeler, 15th of Feb 1944'. With a taxidermy label inside for 'J Cooper & Sons, Bath Rd, Hounslow'. Case 138cms across, 55.5cms high
*This was caught by Hubert Reginald Wheeler (1909-1971). He developed an interest in Fishing from an early age, and became the foremost expert in the Poole, Christchurch and Bournemouth area. The fish was dsiplayed at the Fish Inn in Ringwood for many years, and also at the Beales Department Store where he ran the fishing department. This comes with various notes about Hubert and when it was caught, and also some photographs of him. This has come directly from the family.

Condition

Case has some general wear over time as you would expect, glass is fine, specimen and interior seems generally fine.

Lawrences Auctioneers presents its Summer Fine Art Sale. The sale includes a wide range of fine art and collectables.
