Coins, Medals & Militaria

Here we present our Spring 2025 auction of Coins, Medals, and Militaria with over 1,500 lots over two days.

It is a pleasure to have such a fine Gothic Crown in the sale - to find one Gothic Crown
was wonderful, but to find three for this auction, I couldn’t be happier. Elsewhere amongst the coins, the extraordinary gold Celtic Stater from East Dorset is a special and very rare piece of our early numismatic history.

To have been trusted by the family with the archive of the late Admiral of the Fleet Nowell Salmon V.C.G.C.B. is very special, and to catalogue so many items so closely related to his own history has been a particular pleasure.

Amongst the medals the Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to David Jones, an Officer with the Rhondda Pals, is
particularly fascinating. A heroic and eventful war saw his grave unidentified for many years until identified by a historian of Welsh military history, in 2020 he finally received a headstone on his grave.

This sale has a very nice collection of swords, gathered together from many different sources. The military rapier from the mid-17th century is a particularly exciting discovery, and to be able to link it so closely with ‘The Cromwell Sword’ in the Philadelphia Museum is very exciting, the similarities are such that they surely are from the same workshop?
