The Swedish Ballet, Les Ballets Suédois, was active for five years (1920 – 1925), but managed to perform its ballets almost 2,800 times in 146 cities in 14 countries. During their time, they were one of the world's foremost privately owned ballet ensembles. They danced modernly, lived modernly and above all they communicated modernly. Their avant-garde performances were also advertising full of colour, form and movement.
With pioneering and offensive communication strategies, Rolf de Maré made his dance company the Swedish Ballet world famous.
In 1931, the work "Les Ballets Suédois dans l'Art Contemporain" was published, with plates by e.g. Steinlen, Foujita, Bonnard and Léger.
