Description

LI GONGLIN, after, ink and color on silk, A mountainous landscape with resting deer and a female hermit wearing clothes made of leaf. The woman is cultivating lingzhi mushrooms and plants. Inscription: 'Sleeping dragon Li Gonglin painted with clean hands', framed, late Ming/early Qing dynasty, 16/17th century, c. 143 x 46 cm.

PROVENANCE: Purchased in 1959, by the parents of the present owner. The paintings were earlier in the collection of the Swedish diplomat and minister Dr. Johan E. Hultman (1876-1958) and were sold at an auction in Skåne, Sweden. He was located as a diplomat in Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo during the 1910s until the 1930s.
