Description

Book binding. Richter, Hans Christopher, master bookbinder in Stockholm, (1756 - 1829).
A brown marbled leather band with wide, beautiful gilded cover embroidery bordered by ball border, filled with arabesques, cameos, pyramids, birds, sconces etc. in the so-called Pompeian style. Richly gold decorated spine with gilt title text on green label. Front page marbled in green. Most likely bound by Hans Christopher Richter, master bookbinder active in Stockholm 1792-1829 as bookbinder of the Congregation of the Evangelical Brethren. Richter was born in Turku in 1756 as the son of a tanner. He worked for several years in St. Petersburg before moving to Stockholm, where he became very successful and was one of the bookbinders with the most assets at his death in 1829.
Contains; Runes by Karl August Nicander with drawings by Hugo Hamilton. Printed at Johan Hörberg, Stockholm, 1825. (II), 46 pages + 16 lithographs lithographed by Langlumé.
