205. 1682801. UNIQUE COLLECTION ASTRID LINDGREN WITH 134 VOLUMES MOSTLY IN THE ORIGINAL EDITION.

Description

Lindgren, Astrid, Swedish writer, (1907-2002). An almost unique collection of Astrid Lindgren's life's work in 134 books in the original edition. The collection contains all text and picture books that Astrid Lindgren wrote during her lifetime, from the first book Britt-Marie lättar sitt hjärta (1944) to her last large chapter book Ronja Rövardotter (1981). The last book Astrid herself worked on was a new edition of Sunnanäng (2003) with the illustrator Marit Törnqvist. It was published after her death in 2002. Others are adaptations of existing works and new editions.
Here are the earliest in the original edition. Especially Pippi Longstocking - the first Pippi book - in very good condition. The two subsequent Pippi Longstocking Goes On Board (1946) and Pippi Longstocking in the South Sea (1948) are also in good condition. The collection also includes the books that came before Pippi Longstocking; Britt-Marie eases her heart (1944) and Kerstin and I (1945). The book that came after Pippi Longstocking was Mästerdetektiven Blomkvist (1946), which is available here in two variants of the first edition and in the form of a second edition with a new cover.
A number of books in this collection are signed and/or dedicated by Astrid Lindgren and others. Rasmus, Pontus and Toker with a long dedication of Astrid and Vi på Saltkråkan (1964), while the film book På rymmen med Pippi Longstocking (1971) is signed by Inger Nilsson, who played Pippi in the films. Bröderna Lejonhjärta (1972) is also signed, while the compilation edition Sagorna (1982) is signed funnily by both Astrid Lindgren and the illustrator Ilon Wikland, while Assar Bubbla is signed by the illustrator Marika Delin.
Among the picture books are Astrid's first picture book Do you know Pippi Longstocking (1947), I don't want to go to bed (1947), I also want to go to school (1951), I also want to have a sibling (1954) and Nils Karlsson-Pyssling moves in (1956).
Other rare Lindgren publications are the songbook Sing with Pippi Longstocking (1949) and a program booklet for Children's Day (1961) where all advertising is drawn by Ilon Wikland.
Also available are the photo books that Astrid Lindgren published together with the photographer Anna Riwkin-Brick with pictures of children from different parts of the world and Astrid's texts.
Among Astrid's production of more adult-oriented books are Samuel August and Hanna in Hult, about the parents (1975), Life can be so different (1985) and Mitt Småland (1987).
Finally, the collection contains the youth series about Kati from the early 50s, the only books published by Bonnier's publisher. Bonniers, who refused several times to publish Pippi Longstocking.
A complete inventory of the collection is available on request.

Condition

Pippi Longstocking has a child's signature on the blank front page and the insert is, as always, uniformly toned. Very fresh band. The two other Pippi books with light traces of use. Signatures and touching inscriptions are present, some dust covers are torn and worn and some ribbons are worn. But for the most part a collection in good condition.
Some titles appear in second or later editions, usually with different covers or variants.
