26x26 cm The flag The Sami flag was approved in 1986 by the Nordic Sami Council at a conference in Åre. The flag was designed by Astrid Båhl from Skibotn in Norway. The colors of the flag have a symbolism associated with Sami culture and history: ■ Green - Plants and nature – the land of Sápmi, which is vital for the Sami's survival.
■ Blue - The water that is an elixir of life.
■ Red - The fire that stands for warmth and love.
■ Yellow - The sun, which stands for long-term life.
■ The Ring - The round ring in the flag is the symbol of the spirituality that binds the four elements together.
