German-born Ursula Printz travelled to Sweden at the age of 17, and in 1939 she was apprenticed to Wilhelm Kåge at Gustavsberg. Due to her high artistic level, Ursula became creative director of the decoration department at Gustavsberg in 1942. She held this prestigious position until 1951, when she moved to Denmark to work at Royal Copenhagen. Here Ursula met her future husband, the Danish ceramist Jørgen Mogensen, who worked at the stoneware workshop. Ursula opened her own ceramics studio in 1953 and was joined by Jørgen from the mid-1960s.
