First edition of this important scientific voyage and a detailed account of Japan. Thunberg (1743-1828) travelled to Japan, Ceylon and South Africa and was called the “Japanese Linnaeus” as well as “the father of Cape Botany”. The work was also published in German, English and French.
Also deals with China in vol. III and IV.

Part I only, parts II and III published 1802-1808.
Thunberg: Volumes I-II, worn-binding detached from the text, some foxing and soilng. Volumes II-IV: Some wear to the bindings, a few stained pages.
Sparrman: Heavily worn binding, repair at the top of the spine, partly soiled and stained interior, the two remaining plates are defective, scribblings and ink spots at the end papares.
