Note - Masks of this type, sometimes referred to as “surrender” or “peace” masks, were used in ritual performances among the Grebo and Kru peoples of coastal Liberia. The raised hands symbolize both spiritual salutation and submission, often linked to ceremonial negotiations or protective rites.
