ERNST LUNDSTROM
Lundström was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts 1877-79 and at Edvard Perséu's free painting school in Stockholm. This was followed by study abroad in Germany, Belgium, France and Italy until 1882, and in France in 1885. Lundström belonged to the background figures of the opponent generation and took an active part in the battles against academia. For several years he was also a member of the Union of Artists within whose board he served for a period. During his studies abroad in France, including Grez and Normandy, he dedicated himself to an elegant open-air technique. His subject world consisted of landscapes with motifs from France, Italy and Västmanland in Sweden often with evening atmosphere or with moonlight and archipelago motifs.
Later, Lundeström settled in Stockholm and after his marriage to Countess Mathilda Rudenschöld, they moved to Engelsberg, where Lundström worked primarily as an artisan. Lundström together with Nils Kreuger executed a cabinet which was exhibited in Stockholm in 1897.
Together with Olof Arborelius, Mauritz Lindström and Axel Fahlcrantz he was part of the group Engelsbergsmålarna.
