NATHANAEL “NATAN” JOHANSSON (1840-1904). oil on canvas, “The Cigar Table”, signed Nath Johansson, dated 1898.

According to oral tradition within the owner family, the following provenance exists:
The seller's grandfather's brother-in-law was the artist Nathanael Johansson, called “Natan”. He is said to have painted this painting of himself as well as Carl Larsson. Nathanel hung out with Carl Larsson around the turn of the century when he lived on Malmskillningsgatan in Stockholm.

On verso with the following text:
60 Malmskillningsgatan 60, and possibly Herr A Johansson. The cigar table.

The canvas measures 45 x 65 cm.
Dimensions including frame 63 x 83 cm.
