Decoupage. A framed etching probably from the early 18th century executed in the so-called decoupage technique, which means that the motif is decorated with cut out decorative parts. In this case, a woman sitting at a desk and a child standing at one edge of the desk. In the background a building and what appears to be a coffin. The desk and woman are provided with cut-out coloured sections of silk or paper appliqués in red, green, blue and brown.
Decoupage means cut out in French. The technique originated in Italy and is known since the 18th century.
Frame dimensions: 31x21,5 cm.
Condition
Older, possibly contemporary, frame that is scratched and scuffed. Old glass with some natural traces of use. Not examined out of frame.
