Description

In 1901, shop assistant Frank Hornby invented and patented a new toy called Mechanics Made Easy, which was based on mechanical engineering, the toy consisted of metal parts in small format, plates, beams, wheels, blocks, gears, and shafts that were put together with the help of nuts and screws, the holes in the parts were 12.7mm apart and were 4.2mm in diameter, the shafts 4mm, screws, nuts 4mm, all that was needed to assemble the parts was a screwdriver and wrench.As demand increased, Hornby started his own factory on Duke Street in Liverpool, September 1907 Hornby registered Meccano as a trade mark.
