Description

Consisting of 41 signed mainly Byggnads-aktiebolaget Stockholmia and some for Aktiebolaget Nordisk handel, and about 130 unsigned for Aktiebolaget Home Sweet Home and Aktiebolaget Nordisk handel

Provenance: Gustaf Henrik Eberhard von Hofsten (1880-1958) was a Swedish director and aviation pioneer.
Hofsten worked as a bank clerk 1898-1906. He participated in Nordenskiöld's and von Rosen's scientific expedition to South America in 1901 and 1902 (the Chaco-Cordillera expedition), where he discovered, among other things, several species of birds previously undocumented. Together with Carl Gustav Fogman, he flew in 1907 with the balloon Andrée the 600-kilometer distance from Stockholm to Lappo in Finland in 10 hours. He set the Scandinavian distance record in ballooning in 1910 with a flight from Stockholm to Gotland via Riga; the distance was measured at 1000 kilometres and it was logged in 33 hours and 20 minutes. He was manager of Stockholm Airport 1923-1937. Gustaf had 5 daughters with his wife Addi Ytterborg, born in 1891. Gustaf and his wife Addi made many trips together including to Egypt and Naples. They lived together with their children at Rosenhill on Djurgården in Stockholm.
