History: Gustav Vasa's Bible printed in 1541 is the first printed Bible in Swedish. It was based primarily on Martin Luther's German translation of the Old Testament. The New Testament had been printed in Sweden as early as 1526.
Provenance John Ingels (1925-2016) collections and subsequently bequeathed to the present owner. John Ingels worked as a painter conservator, filmmaker and tour guide, with a soul and heart in his native region of Leksand, over time, he became very entertained and acquired archaeological objects during stays in Egypt and Italy, among others. John Ingels also acquired an extensive collection of ancient scripture fragments, manuscripts as well as books. Most of these have been used in exhibition contexts, purchased in Sweden and abroad in England, Egypt and Israel, among others, and introduced to Sweden during the 1960s.
