PROVENANCE:
The small historic coastal town of Simrishamn on Österlen was for many years the hub of Sweden's auction industry.
Between 1975-1995, the magazine Antik & Auktion was produced from there. All thanks to an enterprising young journalist named Christian Wollin - who has just left his student town Gothenburg and moved with his wife Sussi to the old family residence on Lilla Rådmansgatan in Simrishamn.
Christian was a versatile man with a rich and variegated family history. His ancestor was an alderman and merchant in Simrishamn in the 17th century and his son was in turn a life doctor in the middle of the 18th century.
Christian's grandfather founded the successful company Önos, which initially produced wine, but which after the introduction of the rulebook switched to juice and jam production etc.
The family had a great interest in motoring and Christian's editorial career began with the motormagazine Kart and he was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of the Go kart in Sweden. He became good friends with Ronnie Petersson and other greats in the motoring world.
The path to the ancient world may seem random, but everything has a connection.
The first issue of A&A was published in 1975 and the monthly magazine quickly became the largest of its kind in Europe. Long before the internet and image googling, it was an immensely important source of knowledge and inspiration.
This current auction and auction item form the material core of the editorial work. Christian and his wife Sussi, who partly worked as editorial secretaries, had a wide field of interests. Their private library bears witness to this.
Sussi was basically a trained modist and had a keen interest in fashion, textile arts and jewellery. Christian's heart clapped a little extra for photography, architecture and building care. But the work of A&A accumulated literature of widely varying kinds. Their reference library today constitutes a treasure trove for anyone with an interest in antiques and the auction industry.
Almost 50 years after the first issue, A&A is still a safe haven for many. The Internet has radically influenced the structure of the industry, but still the print is so central.
The auction consists of about 40 shouts with books sorted by area.
To highlight the time that has passed, however, one of the cries is one of the first computers of the editorial staff. ABC-80 with included cassettes, printers, manuals, etc.
Another treat is the drawings that the artist and designer Einar Forseth sent to the editorial office - as a thank you for a nice article in A&A no.1 in 1981.
From the book collection we find, among other things, the catalogue of Kostas glass production from 1931,
- richly illustrated catalogues of Nordic furniture production in the 20th century, as well as photography and typography.
Not functional tested. Seemingly well-off.
