Description

Amphetamines. A five p. long typewritten letter, dated August 1962, from a professor Gordon A. Alles in California to Professor Bo Holmstedt, a toxicologist at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. In the letter, Professor Alles answers questions about how he discovered the effect of the synthetically manufactured central stimulant amphetamine.
Included are documents in the form of scientific reports on the work of amphetamines, a photograph of Professor Alles and an obituary of him.
Amphetamine was first used for medical purposes but since it was discovered that it was an addictive drug it was classed as a narcotic. In Sweden, amphetamine is the most widely used illegal substance after cannabis.
