Description

Sjöborg, Nils Henrik, professor m. m., (1767 -1838). Collections for Nordic antiquarian lovers (I-III), containing Inscriptions, Figurines, Ruins, Tools, Piles and Stone Deposits in Sweden and Norrige, with plans. The first part was printed at Fr. B. Nestius, Stockholm, 1822, the second and third parts printed at J. Hörberg, Stockholm 1824 and 1830 respectively. Three 4:o volumes in contemporary brown, marbled leather bands with gilt back text, richly gilded back decor, yellow cuts and marbled cover leaves. This copy contains the rare frontispiece by Elias Martin in the first part coloured and the extra lancet Salebysten at Dagsnäs on pages 28-29 in the first part. Most of the planches in the first part are beautifully hand coloured. Colored Frontespis, Vol. IN. (XII), 140 pp + 43 planscher. Vol. II. Lithographed title page, (X), 204 pp. + 60 plans. Vol. III. Frontespis, (VIII), 191 pp. +, 60 plates.
This is accompanied by a 4-page handwritten letter which, although not signed, must simply be written by Nils Sjöborg. It is entitled “Proposals for the expenditure of Collections for Nordic Antique Lovers and is a detailed description of the book project.

Condition

The bands with some slight superficial scratches. Front cover of third volume slightly chafed. But well cohesive and handsome ties. The submissions most fresh but minor bearing spots occur here and were on the planches, but never hard or directly disturbing.
The handwritten letter about the book project in very good condition.
