Description
Whitworth percussion lock rifle, made in the early 1860s.
Two-band variant, with the typical hexagonal grooving characteristic of Whitworth's patents. The clasp marked B. Blasley (English gunmaker)
Pipe marked Whitwort's Patent
Unnumbered, most likely civilian use.
Adjustable front sight in wind, as well as rear in height. Original sight replaced with diopter.
Net-cut log in walnut.
Used by the Confederates at the time of the American Civil War. The rifle was the first sniper rifle used militarily in history. Whitwort's patent was completely revolutionary as the accuracy was unmatched.
Length approx. 124 cm
Caliber .451.
Condition
Nice condition with working mechanism.
Very light imprint, much of original finish remains.
Unnumbered, most likely civilian use.
Charging stake missing.
Flask with impact marks.
Log with less filling on wood.
