Cycladic art refers to the ancient artistic tradition of the Cycladic islands in the Aegean Sea, dating back to the Early Bronze Age (c. 3200–2000 BC). Cycladic art is mainly associated with stylized figures known as "Cycladic idols". These statuettes were sculpted from white marble and displayed a minimalistic emphasized form, often depicting figures in a reclining or standing position. The purpose of these sculptures is still unknown, but they likely had a religious or funerary significance. Today, the Cycladic idols are some of the most recognizable symbols of the Bronze Age, and have come to inspire 20th century modernist giants such as Henry Moore, Constantin Brâncuși and Alberto Giacometti.
