Description

Victorian presentation carriage clock, brass casing, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, engraved to the top 'PRESENTED BY MAJOR BATHURST, R.B., 150 YDS. SERG.S RACE, WON BY CR. SERGT. BARRETT, R.B. WYNBERG 1888', key present, height 10.5 cm, the Rifle Brigade Chronicle of 1890 records a Colour Sergeant Barrett of the 3rd Battalion as part of the team for the Bengal Presidency Rifle Association meeting at Meerut in January 1891, apparently the team was 'well placed', it also records the 3rd Battalion Rifle Brigade as proceeding to Egypt, The Cape, and India in 1888, Wynberg is situated in the Eastern part of Johannesburg, a Lionel Hervey Bathurst is recorded as a Rifle Brigade officer, 2nd Lieutenant in Oct. 1868 and Lieutenant in Oct 1871, he is also shown as entitled to the Canada General Service Medal with clasp for service during the Fenian Raid of 1870 while serving in the 1st Battalion R.B. as an Ensign, the record shows his rank as Lt Col.when claiming the medal circa 1903.

Condition

No chips/cracks to glass, no damage/dints to brainwork, key present, doesn't appear to work when wound.
