2 titles printed in red and black, small woodcut vignette on first title, 1 engraved allegorical frontispiece "Anatome plantarum" by R. White) and 93 engraved plates (of 123, lacking 30 plates [together with the 7 smaller plates]; some slight foxing or /and spotting, a few plates shaved and lacks number; first title restored to inner margins, a few pages in the beginning with restorations to inner margin, text with some foxing and spotting, small burnhole to one page, a few pages browned .
19th century half calf, partly worn and rubbed, smalll split to lower outer joint, red title label to spine. Small antiquarian cut to inner board together with some pencil notes.
First edition. Waller, 6201. According to Waller, 255 pages are missing.
In 1698 a posthumous edition "Opera posthuma" was published in Amsterdam.
Malpighi's writings on his research into the microscopic structures of plant and animal anatomy. "Malpighi was the founder of histology and the greatest of the microscopists" (Garrison-Morton-Norman 66).
Incomplete. According to Waller, 255 pages are missing. Lacquering 30 plates.
