Olof Rudbeck the Younger, born March 15, 1660 in Uppsala, died March 23, 1740 in Uppsala, was a Swedish natural historian and linguist, professor of medicine and rector of Uppsala University. A pioneer in botany and ornithology, Rudbeck was knighted in 1719. In 1695, at Charles XI's command, he undertook a journey to Lapland, a journey he intended to describe in a work, Lapponia illustrata, of which only the first of several planned parts was published, when the manuscript and its working notes were destroyed in the great fire in Uppsala 1702. The volume refurbished with new inner cover paper and endpapers. Possibly a tape from another work but it fits the insert well. Edge wear and rubbed covers, but well held binding. Passages with layer stains in the insert. NOTE: Two of the plates are facsimiles according to notes produced by Björn Dal. Some older ink lines in some margins.
