Hand-coloured engraved bird's-eye plan of Vilnius with the river Wilde, text cartouche above, description cartouche to the lower left part. About 367 x 502 mm.
Latin text on verso, page number 59.
Bought at Stafsund manor (Sweden) on 15.9. 1966 for 340 sec. (written in pencil on verso), small owner's stamp in corner on verso. Framed.

The view of Braun and Hogenberg was taken from a drawing by Flemish artist, Guillebert de Lannoy, who visited the city in 1414.
First published in 1581 in the Civitates Orbis Terrarum.

Vilnius, capital of Lithuania.

Centrefold as published. A few creases. Minor spotting in lower centerfold.
