
Order of Carol I, Grand Cross Breast Star.
Eight-pointed star in silver with gilding. In the center of the star the Romanian eagle with a cross in its beak, holding sword and scepter in its claws. On the eagle's breast a gilded medallion depicting Carol I of Romania. Banner with the text: "Prin Statornicie La Izbanda", which means "Victory through Endurance".
The Order of Carol I was founded in 1906 to commemorate Carol I's 40 years on the throne. The order was awarded to members of the Romanian royal family as well as prominent Romanian and foreign citizens. The order was awarded by the king and was the highest award in Romania (together with the Order of Ferdinand I) until 1947 when the monarchy was abolished.
