Numbered 1/30, image dimensions approx. 20x29 cm HISTORY: Isabelle Adjani - France's most popular and most loved actress.
Ewa Rudling on Adjani: "I want to be photographed in the cemetery, because my best friend killed himself today," Isabelle Adjani said when she entered my studio in Montparnasse. I knew from experience that it is forbidden to take pictures in cemeteries in Paris. The guards, who don't have much to do - apart from yelling at each other - are usually quite drunk and can get quite aggressive. Once I almost broke my camera and had to fight to get out of there. “We don't need to be out in the wind. I can create the same sad mood here," I said, dressing Isabelle in my antique black velvet dress I found at a flea market. "Think of your friend," I said. Isabelle was so beautiful with her shimmering white alabaster skin, that fine miss skin. She fit so well in the dress that she got to keep it. That picture started my series in black. "We usually call it Rembrandt," said the head of my lab Centralcolor, who made the enlargements for my first exhibition at my favorite pub, La Coupole, in Paris.
