Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of Denmark's most significant architects ever and a pioneering representative of Danish functionalism. Several of his buildings, Nørrebro Theater (1931–32), Daells Varehus (1928–35), Radiohuset (1936–41) and the first terminal at Kastrup (1937–39), represented the concentrate of modern life. Other important buildings designed by Lauritzen are Folkets Hus (1953–56), now the Vega concert hall, Shellhuset (1950–51) and the Danish Embassy in Washington (1958–60). In particular, the Radio House and the oldest part of Kastrup Airport, both of which are k-marked, are considered unique monuments of modernism in European architecture.
