
Propaganda. Six (6) issues (out of 12) of the Soviet propaganda magazine USSR in Construction - i.e. the English-language edition - The magazine came out in Russian, French, German and English. Stapled folios with colorfully illustrated covers where the title USSR im Bau is always in the center. Enormously richly photo-illustrated and often with a revolutionary layout and design, still unmatched today. Photography is at the center of all issues, because photography was the revolution's art form par preference. They also experimented with new forms of expression such as collage and montage in different forms. Approx. 40-50 pages. per number. The modernist artist, photographer and designer Alexander Rodchenko (Rodchenko) and his wife Varvara Stepanova were largely behind the conception and design of USSR im Bau for a long time. The artist, the photographer, etc El Lissitzky was another employee.
Provenance. The photographer, writer, etc. Rune Hassner, (1928-2003), whose collection of USSR im Bau/ USSR in Construction formed the basis for a large exhibition at the Fotomuseet in Sundsvall in 2006.
The spines and covers with some traces of use, but mostly good quality.
