After extensive studies in Indian classical music, he led an instrumental ensemble on Indian Radio between 1949 and 1956, and he contributed musically to Satyajit Ray's Apu film trilogy. Shankar toured the United States in 1957 and attracted much attention, and since then was an important mediator between Indian and Western musical culture. Among other things, he collaborated a lot with musicians from the West, for example Yehudi Menuhin. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he performed some in a rock context, for example at the Woodstock festival, but without compromising his musical background. His influence on The Beatles is well known; he taught George Harrison to play the sitar, among others. He also collaborated with Philip Glass and wrote several pieces of music. One of them is Channels and Winds (1990). Signed photo in postcard size.
Clear and distinct autograph.
