At this time of year — when August turns to September — they are often nothing more than a memory from the summer that has passed. Garden furniture with a gentle swing, in which one has sat with a cup of coffee in hand. Perhaps in a bower, perhaps on a veranda.
One person who knows everything about that is Bengt-Elis Petersson. This year he published the book "Trädgårdsmöbler med gung från Grythyttan". Across over 296 pages he presents one beautiful model after another, and we are treated to the history of the Swedish welfare state as told from our gardens.
Växjö Auktionskammare now presents a theme absolutely packed with garden furniture, selected by this acknowledged authority on the subject. First come some 1930s classics, but also a pair of elegant chairs designed by Nisse String — and not least, several rare models one seldom or almost never sees on the market. One such is the Grythyttan model Copenhagen, which was only manufactured for a couple of years in the mid-1960s. Another is Skanör from Herman Persson Järn.
