Part two of the collection Uppsala in Pictures – Per Tärnström is now published. An extensive collection of works from the artist's own family, with motifs from Uppsala and its changing urban environments.
Per Tärnström (1938–2022) devoted a large part of his life to depicting Uppsala. The classic views are there: the cathedral, the castle, the university building and the well-known silhouette of Gustavianum. But what particularly distinguishes Tärnström is his eye for those parts of the city that otherwise easily fall into obscurity.
With a slightly naïve but carefully observant style, he depicted farmhouses, backyards, streets, planks and neighbourhoods. Environments that many have passed by without noticing, and which in several cases were later demolished or changed.
The current collection contains a large number of works that reflect the breadth of Tärnström's production, from smaller watercolours to larger paintings. Together they form a personal portrait of Uppsala, depicted with warmth, presence and a clear sense of place.
