Autumn’s catalog opens with a wooden stool, not yet fully formed – Untouched - ”Orörd”
”Orörd” – In this product consisting of a raw wooden stool and a Mora knife, launched at Stockholm Design Week in February 2026, two historic swedish companies, Swedese and Morakniv, who share a love for craftsmanship and wood as a material, offer you - the buyer, the chance to step into the role of craftsman and designer, a task where only your imagination sets the limits.
As part of a project celebrating craftsmanship, Swedese and Morakniv invited nine established creators–artists, designers, and artisans to join this conversation on craft. They were presented with the very task that you, as a buyer, may soon face: to put their personal touch on this stool using perhaps the most intimate tool of woodworking - a carving knife.
In early 2027, Crafoord Auctions Stockholm will host an auction where these nine "touched" stools will go under the hammer, with all proceeds going to charity. These customized stools have been on tour over the past year. Their journey included exhibitions at the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg and the Form/Design Center in Malmö, before making their final stop early next year at Crafoord Auctions in Stockholm. You can already catch a glimpse of them in this catalog to find your inspiration.
Take the opportunity to leave your own mark on one of the stools. Throughout this catalog, you will find 12 copies of the ”Orörd” stool scattered across pages otherwise filled to the brim with inspiration for the task.
A brilliant example of this is the "Malmsten" cabinet (catalog number 5332483), designed for Nordiska Kompaniet in 1917. The name gives away the designer. Throughout his career, Carl Malmsten advocaded the very message that Swedese and Morakniv are promoting today; he spoke of "the hand and the spirit" (handen och anden). In his eyes, the craftsman was an artist and wood a sacred material. He believed that manual labor was essential to human well-being - nurturing for both mind and soul. This cabinet is just one of many fascinating objects we present in this 22nd edition of the Crafoord Stockholm Design Sale, where craftsmanship and quality run like a common thread throughout the catalog.
Welcome!
