Formstad Auktioner presents a selection of Swedish silver from the 18th and 19th centuries, a period when domestic silver reached a particular peak in both artistic expression and quality.
Silver played a central role in the upper-class homes and representative environments of the time and bears clear traces of the period's style ideals, from the soft earlier days of Rococo to the elegance of Gustavian times. Among the prominent silversmiths of the time is Pehr Zethelius, one of the 18th century's most prolific Swedish masters, whose work is characterized by high artistic and technical quality during the Rococo and Gustavian periods.
Identification and dating of Swedish silver is largely based on stamps. From 1759, year stamps were introduced in Sweden, which allows for a more precise dating of many objects, while older silver often requires a combination of style analysis and master stamps for secure attribution.
Welcome to take part in an elegant selection that reflects Swedish silversmithing at a high level and timeless elegance.
