Rony Lutz was born in 1938 in Nuremberg, Germany, and after art studies in his home country, came to Sweden in 1960, where he soon became involved in the advertising and printing industry. In 1969, he was hired by SAAB, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. During his more than thirty years at the company, he was responsible for everything from advertising illustrations to advanced X-ray-style technical drawings, and his combination of perfectionism and artistic communication made him one of the very best in his field, worldwide.
In this auction, 89 of his original works go under the hammer. Each image is the result of enormous patience - a single original could take two to three months of intensive work to complete. With masterful precision, Lutz captures the reflections in lacquer, the depth of chrome, and the dynamic speed of cars in motion. Now, at 87 years of age, he has chosen to let his life's work live on with new owners.
Many of the works in this auction also carry their own exhibition history and have been shown both in Sweden and internationally: at the Junkers Aviation Museum in Dessau (2012), at "Speed Art-Design" in Mariestad (2013), in a solo exhibition at NK-villan in Nyköping (2014), at "Mellan teknik och mode" hosted by Autostadt Wolfsburg/Volkswagen (2014), in a solo exhibition at Konsthallen in Trollhättan (2015), in "Saab-illustrationer" at the Vehicle Museum in Arvika (2016), at "Strom-Linien Form" at the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen (2016-2017), at "Dessauer Rekordwoche - Bauhaus 100 Years" in Dessau (2019), and most recently at the Hugo Junkers Technology Museum in Germany (2024).
