"I first became a writer. Back then, I couldn't write properly, but I filled page after page with writing. And then those gradually became symbols that turned into figures. But it was movement. It was very much about movement."
This is how Madeleine Pyk describes the embryo of her artistic journey in Kerstin Odhenkrans' film "Boxing with the Clouds" from 1986. By then, Pyk had long been an established and sought-after artist. She had studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design from 1951 to 1955 and at the Royal Institute of Art from 1963 to 1967. Today, many years later, she has become almost universally beloved. When we now encounter her at Skåne's Auction House, it is under the title "A Colorful Naïvist." The theme includes both graphics and paintings, and alongside her easily recognizable lithographs, there are more unique works, such as original pieces from the 1960s and 1970s.
