Like a well-preserved dream on the southern outskirts of Hedemora lies Svedjan Manor. A remarkable building with origins dating back to the Middle Ages, which in the 17th century became a military residence and in 1784 an armourer's quarters. Ten functioning tiled stoves where fires can crackle, snap and work their way through the wood. A park-like grounds made for pleasant coffee moments in the pergola. A place of precisely the kind that usually remains only a dream.
But now, through Falun Auktionsbyrå, we are given the opportunity to experience and perhaps also acquire the estate's contents. An auction comprising over 240 lots presents antiques, beautiful objects and all manner of curiosities from Svedjan Manor.
A pair of Gustavian mirrors from the late 18th century are among the auction's star lots. As is a bouillotte lamp with columns and cuffs decorated with a pearl border. And then of course the magnificent table with its profiled and extraordinarily substantial top of Gotlandic red limestone.
Beyond these, the sale includes stove feet, garden urns, flower and salon tables, columns, caskets, several console tables, paintings and copper engravings from the 19th century, an old folk lantern, an abundance of mirrors both small and large, table lamps, an axe and much else besides that belongs in historic surroundings.
