Oskar Bergman's quietly understated depictions of nature occupy a place entirely their own in Swedish art history. As though untouched by the advance of modernism, he created his views and landscapes almost daily. His methodical work with detailed renderings of meadows, coastlines, forests and cities caused art historians to overlook him for a long time. But a few years ago, Oskar Bergman was rediscovered by a new international audience. Into the light came not only his long-celebrated birch trees, but also his early production, which clearly reveals a sensitivity to the currents of his time.
At Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 we are now presented with 20 examples of Oskar Bergman's pictorial world. Here we can sense the lightness of summer days, here we are initiated into his highly developed ability to render trees and vegetation in greyscale – and if time allows, we stop by Gamla Stan for a visit to the LILLA KAFFE HANDELN.
All paintings come with the finest possible provenance and have remained in the family until now.
