Lindstrand began his career at Orrefors Glassworks in the late 1920s, where he quickly became one of the leading creative forces. During his time at Orrefors, and later at Kosta Boda, he introduced several innovative techniques and designs that expanded the possibilities of glass as an artistic medium. His work often featured bold, abstract motifs and complex colour inclusions, reflecting his interest in exploring the expressive potential of glass. Lindstrand's designs from this period include etched glass that depicted elaborate scenes and figures, pushing the boundaries of traditional glass etching.

After his successful tenure in glass design, Lindstrand also made significant strides in ceramics during his time at Uppsala-Ekeby, where he continued to apply his avant-garde approach to new materials.
