If you’ve ever strolled through Tegnérlunden, you may have seen her bronze portrait of Astrid Lindgren. The work is titled “Poetry and Enchantment”, and when one explores her other creations in the shared space, it becomes clear that this was a storytelling artist: “Once Upon a Gardener”, “The Cat Who Walked by Himself”, and “Brueghel’s Children” all sound like the titles of novels or films one ought to experience.
This text is about Majalisa Alexandersson (1934–2024), a Swedish sculptor who expressed herself in clay and bronze with an expressive, unmistakable style. She was also a passionate volunteer, dedicating herself tirelessly to society’s most vulnerable. Her ardent goodwill was manifested in many years of work for Stockholms Stadsmission. When she passed away in the autumn of 2024 at the age of 89, she bequeathed her sculptural works to the very same organization.
They are now being presented by Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla, in a cohesive theme featuring 81 lots – all sold in support of Stockholms Stadsmission.
The selection is broad, including works in bronze, earthenware, and papier-mâché. A 30 cm bronze treasure rests alongside the highly expressive earthenware piece “The Clown”, and among all the figures stands an impressive prototype of the Astrid Lindgren portrait, over 70 cm high. This theme offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the art of Majalisa Alexandersson.
Warm welcome to Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla!
